Best Pay ones:
Guild Wars (no monthly though) - My all time favourite MMORPG Cheesy I play it all the time and have every campaign and addon, and it's still fun to play.
Not played any other pay ones except WoW, which I hate.

Best Free ones:
I played a hell of a lot of free ones back in the day before Guild Wars. Best quality I've seen is Silkroad Online, I can't remember a lot of them to be honest, as silkroad was the last I played before GW. Just to note: Runescape sucks!

Yup guild wars is super awesome. With 10 professions, and everyone gets a secondary profession which is interchangeable later on. I never run out of ideas to expiriment Tongue

At the moment I'm using my main character (dervish - which is a scythe weilding hooded guy who can cast self enchantments) and giving him a secondary profession of Ranger (archer can use traps and pets) and training his pet (phoenix) that I got from completing the factions campaign story line Cheesy At the same time as vanquishing areas in hard mode.

I'm not a big PvP-er myself. Never been too good at it, I do like Alliance Battles a lot though. Which needs some explaining, in the released the second game two factions were introduced Luxon (pirates on a sea made from jade) and Kurzicks (arty forest dwellers in a stone forest) and your guild can choose their alliance with one of them if the leader owns the second game. You can then participate in Alliance battles with your faction if you also own the second game. Alliance battle is 3 groups of 4 vs 3 groups of 4 in one big map. The aim is the first to 500 points or to capture all 7 shrines for 30 seconds. You get points every kill, and per captured shrine per 7 seconds. It's a pretty awesome PvP mode, lots of rivalry between the factions. I'm luxon btw Smiley

What do you mean latest version? There's 3 campaigns (stand alone) and one add on, the 3 campaigns are Prophecies (only first 6 professions - warrior, monk, ranger, necromancer, mesmer, and elementalist), factions (asia type, adds assassin and ritualist, gives access to Alliance battle) and nightfall (most recent gives access to dervish and paragon). And the addon is mainly for max level chars (20)

Well there are 3 campaigns, Nightfall being the most recent, but they are all updated. Just some features aren't available in others, factions gives assassin/ritualist and AB. Nightfall gives heroes (customizeable AI players) and dervish/paragon. And prophecies is the original campaign, and eases you into the game a lot. Either way the campaigns can be stacked on one account so you have all the access and your players can travel to another continent when they reach a port town.

If you're a big PvP-er then go with factions. If you prefer PvE (adventure) go with nightfall, or if you prefer a slower pace Prophecies (original)
